Far from its origins as an ancient iced-drink or snow and rice mixture, ice-cream has come a long way and we’re here to tell you where you can find the best of this delicacy, in Cornwall.
Moomaid of Zennor is first on our list. The cows of this dairy call Tremedda Farm home, and roam freely on land that stretches down to the dramatic coastline of Zennor, where the famous siren or Zennor mermaid, lured sailors into the sea. Our favourite flavour is fittingly, Shipwreck: Sea salt ice cream, dulce de leche caramel & honeycomb. And if you want to pay your respects to said mermaid, you can take a trip into this hamlet and visit her likeness in St Senara's Church – carved into a 15 -century wooden chair.
They have parlours in St Ives, Porthtowan, Lelant and St Just.

Jelbert’s is as unassuming as the calories that follow mixing freshly churned traditional vanilla ice-cream with a scoop of Cornish clotted cream. A pairing that we don’t question, as this family has been perfecting the same flavour for 80 years! Custard yellow, it speaks of the fresh ingredients like egg yolks that go into making it, before being blended to a memorable silk like texture.
On a complete side note, Newlyn is one of the few working harbours in West-Penwith and we recommend the fishmongers here, if you want to cook some fresh seafood in your property.
Callestick Farm near Truro, is a family run business that has been farming and creating ice-cream for decades. Their herd of Jersey x Fresian cows are well looked after and even have benefits including maternity leave, which all contributes to the high-quality milk they produce; ready to be churned into some delicious and world class flavours. They also produce Cornish ice cream for Marks & Spencer, so you know it’s a top tier treat! They have a parlour at the farm, which is well worth a visit to try flavours like Caramel Biscuit, Toffee Apple, Creamy Coconut and loads more. Many of the flavours are Taste of the West award winners too. Count us in.

Ok, Chapel Porth Beach Cafe don't make their own ice cream, but they do coat amazing Cornish ice cream in a host of toppings to create something truly magnificent. Their 'Hedgehog' ice creams are well known and well loved. Here's why... They coat super ice ice cream with Cornish clotted cream and their own roasted hazelnuts. It looks amazing, it tastes amazing, it's something you need to experience, plus St Agnes is nearby and a place worth a visit for food and adventure.
You'll find Roskilly's out on the Lizard Peninsular, a place where you can also find the UK's most southerly point. They make award winning ice cream using natural ingredients. Creating ice creams, sorbets, frozen kefir, plant based alternatives and even dog ice cream for your four-legged friends. Their farm animals are also a reason to visit, along with their parlour and restaurant at their base in St Keverne.
Just down the road from us in Hayle you'll find Mr Bs. With a parlour at both ends of the town you can enjoy some amazing local ice cream. They have so many great flavours to choose form, personally we love the 'Snickers' option, combining ice cream with chunks of our favourite chocolate bar. You'll find plenty of other flavours to enjoy, as well as tasty treats.
