Cafes in Gwithian Towans

Gwithian Towans is a little oasis. Home to Three Mile Beach and our 15 luxury beach houses. But we’re not alone. There’s a great selection of cafes in Gwithian. Quirky old coastguard lookouts turned cafes. Horsebox come café nestled in the dunes on Gwithian beach. All tried and tested.

Chomp Outdoor Kitchen and Bar

Chomp Outdoor Kitchen and Bar

It’s our very own restaurant serving an ever-changing menu embracing the four seasons and champions local produce. Everything is cooked from scratch by Head Chef Olly and his team. Think locally foraged mussel paella or halloumi fries with a hand-crafted gooseberry sweet chilli sauce. All washed down with locally distilled gins, fine ales, creative cocktails and soft drinks.

Sunset Surf

This is right next door to Three Mile Beach. And that makes us very happy. It’s loved by surfers, locals, and visitors. Dogs and kids love it here. The menu stars breakfasts like Veggie Surfer (a lovely full English) and Belgian Waffle Stack (not very English but very, very good). Lunchtime highlights include Five Bean Nachos and pizzas. It’s open seven days a week in high season but winter times vary so check to avoid disappointment.

Jam Pot Cafe

Standing on the headland, this seriously cute café is was originally a 19th-century coastguard lookout. Now, it’s all about serving simple things well. It’s one for breakfast, sandwiches, cream teas, coffee, cakes, and pasties all lovingly. The garden is an ideal spot for enjoying your treats with views across the beautiful bay to St Ives.

How far? A short walk.

When can I go? Every day of the week 10–4 in high season. Opening times vary at other times of the year, so check their Facebook page before you head over there.

Hungry Horsebox

This is another quirky option. Down on the beach at Gwithian, to the right of the lifeguard hut steps, set back close to the dunes, you’ll find a converted horsebox serving cream teas, coffees, and cakes including vegan options. They also hold cookouts in the evening around three times a month in the summer. They’re very popular, they’re BYOB, the food’s tasty, and it’s all very magical. Book tickets ahead.

How far? A short walk.

When can I go? The weather makes or breaks a Hungry Horsebox day so check in on Insta to see if they’ll be there. For the cookouts, keep your eyes on the website for details.

The Rockpool Beach Cafe

At the lighthouse end of the beach near the Red River is The Rockpool – a laid-back, dune-dwelling, open-all-day café bar open every day in peak season. There are two rules: 1. Sit outside if your wetsuit hasn’t dried 2. Keep your dog on a lead. Their fresh seafood and burgers win our votes. They also have live music and open-air cinema events throughout the year, so check to see if there’s something on during your stay. Their wine list is good, and real ale fans will find a good selection of local brews. Just remember your torch for the walk home.

How far? A medium walk. Shorter if the tide’s out.

When can I go? All year.

We love this breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot. It’s dog-friendly, vegan-friendly, and just all-round super friendly. It’s a popular one, so get there early in the summer months to avoid queuing out the door.

How far? A 15-minute walk along Gwithian beach.
