Half Term at Three Mile Beach

by Lauren Austin

February Half Term

It doesn’t matter that February isn’t that classic warm beach holiday, here at Three Mile Beach there’s still more than enough to keep the whole family entertained. Whether you are sticking nearby and enjoying the trappings of one of our luxury beach houses, or looking to slip into cold weather clothing for an adventure on the Cornish coast.

Here’s our tips for a super half term break this February.

Book a pizza party for your arrival day

It’s a perfect first evening dinner as a family! We’ll provide a pizza oven and all the ingredients you could possibly need to make your own pizzas. Settle into your beach house with delicious dough and maybe pop the log burner on.

There is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing.

If this is a mantra you live by then we can organise surfing lessons, taking measurements for wetsuits before you get here so you have all the right gear to keep you warm when you hit the waves on Gwithan beach. It’s a bracing experience in February, but you know you are a hop, skip and jump from your very own hot tub and sauna!

Out and about there are plenty of places to add to a list to visit, most of which you’ll find in our beautiful guide, but here are a few of our colder weather favourites.

A coast path stroll that ends in a pub with an open fire.

Nothing quite beats embracing the elements and then enjoying the reward of a good meal in a warm pub. There’s plenty of places to enjoy a walk, you can even head out of Three Mile Beach and head towards to Godrevy Lighthouse and loop round past the seals in the top cove and end your stroll at the Red River Inn down the road in Gwithian village. These guys serve up fabulous food and do a superb Sunday roast. Further afield we love picking walks that end in Porthleven, there’s plenty of great pubs and restaurants to enjoy after taking in the coast, there’s little that beats a pint in The Ship Inn, overlooking the harbour. You’ll find a walks guide book in your beach house, so there’s more to be found!

Visiting a more traditional attraction is always worth doing.

We love the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth, Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan near St Austell and any number of National Trust properties from Goldolphin to Trelissick.

Retail therapy can be enjoined in nearby St Ives, with plenty of great independent shops and galleries to enjoy on the cobbled streets of our well-known neighbour. If you prefer more hustle and bustle then Truro is worth a look, all the usual retail suspects are here in Cornwall’s city. It’s a lovely place to spend some time, and you’re spoilt for choice for lunch or dinner.

There’s plenty of culture to be sniffed out nearby. There are theatres and shows to catch at places like Hall for Cornwall or exhibitions and art at the famous Tate St Ives.

Storm watching.

Make the best of bad weather and enjoy some storm watching. Porthleven is once again a great spot, but there’s also Portreath just up the road.  A great place to watch high tide waves crash over the hut on the harbour.

February half term means the dog is super welcome across Cornwall, with no dog bans in the colder months they can enjoy the beaches.

Here at Three Mile Beach we will go the extra mile to make your break an amazing experience, laying the hospitality on thick.
